American Black Walnut
Also known as American Black and Gumwood.
The colour is usually uniform even given the presence of darker streaks. The sapwood is blonde in colour standing out against the darker grain. The grain is mostly straight though in older trees can be more curly or wavy with a course texture. The wavy or curvy boards are sought after for veneering. Mild timber to handle, it saws and cuts well. It also turns well and produces a good surface finish. This timber is sought after for high class furniture and cabinet work.
