American Cherry

Also known as Black Cherry, Rum Cherry, Wild Black Cherry or Wild Cherry.

Very similar in colour to its European cousin, American Cherry ranges from a warm light to a dark reddish brown and when planed as a nice lustre. Described as a medium to lightweight timber it saws well and is mainly used in internal projects. It‘s mostly uniform grain texture means that it has good machining properties and end planing results are smooth and lustrous in the finish. Cherry glues well and can be stained although its normally used in its natural state. Uses include fine furniture making, cabinetmaking, panelling and other decorative joinery. Limited use in gun stock manufacture and musical instruments.
