European Beech
Also known as Danish, English, French, German Romanian Beech and found throughout Europe.
A white coloured timber when just cut with often pale brown or pinkish streaking with the steaming process making the colour more uniform. Heart and sapwood are almost identical. Generally hard and dense it has medium strength and once dried needs to be kept in constant conditions to avoid movement. Not recommended for external or exposed locations. It saws and planes well but tendency to burn if tools are blunt. Beech glues well and takes well to staining. Steam bends with ease. A versatile timber used in many internal projects particularly for chairs and their components. It is also a popular flooring choice.
